Overlee Pool Phase II Opening Procedures

Overlee Membership,

As we work toward a Phase II opening, we understand that the current guidance on pool openings in these early opening phases is far from a normal Overlee pool experience for our members.  The Overlee Board is committed to providing access to the club to benefit as many members as possible and in any capacity possible within the guidelines recommended by Arlington County, the Commonwealth of Virginia, applicable federal authorities and Overlee’s insurance provider.  Patience, tolerance, and understanding during our phased opening is paramount to our success.

Capacity restrictions are currently in the government issued guidelines for all phases of reopening.  During any restricted capacity times, daily guests will be prohibited.  Unfortunately, this would include inactive members. Overlee’s daily guest policy will be reviewed by the Board once the guidelines remove all capacity restrictions.

We are excited to announce that the Swim, Dive, and Synchro teams are modifying practices according to Phase II guidance to accommodate their participants. All 3 teams will have practices starting this week. A huge thank you to Greg York for working with the team reps and coaches to create a modified, but still active, season!

New this summer – Camp Overlee!  The innovation of head counselor Greg York and led by our enthusiastic lifeguards, Camp Overlee will get the kids in the pool exercising and having fun!  More details are below.

Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate through this extraordinary time.

New this season:  Camp Overlee!

Fun and engaging instructor-led exercise classes for children will be offered this summer while Overlee is under Phase II! There are two exciting options available Monday – Friday afternoons to get the kids exercising and in the pool:

  1.  Main Pool – During the afternoon sessions, Every 10-15 minutes, lifeguards/instructors will lead kids in a variety of exercise classes and/or games for 10-15 minutes at a time based on skill level.  If a child can stand in the pool, we will have something for them.
  2. Social Pool – Instructor-led classes for children with or without parent* (if a child can stand alone and follow directions, a parent in the water is not necessary) – More info to come!

Member Policies and Procedures during COVID-19 Crisis

Suspension of Membership Privileges

The management has the right to ask anyone to leave the grounds. The Overlee Board may send a reminder/warning letter to any member not following safety rules. Any members not following the limitations as described in this communication may have their membership privileges suspended.

Face Coverings/Masks

All swimmers must have their nose and mouth covered at all times while on Overlee property unless he/she is in the pool water. All swimmers must resume wearing their masks/face coverings as soon as possible after exiting the water. All members sitting on the pool deck must be wearing a face covering/mask at all times.

PPE

Members must provide their own personal protective equipment (PPE), such as face coverings, masks, gloves, etc. and must wear a face covering on Overlee property when not in the water.  Face coverings must fully cover nose and mouth.  These may be fabric face coverings, surgical masks, N95 masks, etc.

How to Reserve

Members will reserve their 30-minute (Lap Pool) or 75-minute (Main Pool, Social Pool, and Dive Well) timeslot via a Sign Up Genius online form 24 hours in advance.  Members may also call during open hours and reserve a time to swim for the same or next day. Overlee will not accept walk-up reservations.

Equipment/Kickboards

Overlee will not have any kickboards or equipment available for usage. Members are required to bring any and all necessary equipment. Any items left will be immediately discarded.

Entering Overlee Pool Area

Shower Before Entering

Overlee requests that every member shower at home before coming to the pool and be ready to enter the water immediately after entrance wearing his/her swimsuit and with all necessary equipment.

Front Entrance

Members, except for lessons participants, must enter through the staffed front entrance.  Prior arrangements will be made directly with members of limited mobility to enter through our ADA entrance at the rear gate.

  1. The staff will signal swimmers to exit their cars and where to stand (markings) while awaiting entry. Please avoid touching railings, fences, tables, barriers, etc.
  2. If a member arrives late for their time slot, he/she may only be in the facility for the rest of that reserved time slot.
  3. Staff will conduct a health screening of each swimmer.
  4. If the swimmer passes the screening, he/she will be allowed to proceed to membership card scanning (touchless) and through the door to the top of a lap lane. All members MUST have their card to scan. Limited contact with staff is a priority and verifying membership impacts traffic flow for the other members in the same time slot.

Only when the screening parameters and card scanning have been successfully completed by the member will he/she be allowed to enter the pool area.

Mandatory Health Screening for Members

Overlee strongly discourages sick members from coming to the pool area. Before entering the pool deck, the Front Entrance staff will require that the member passes the following health screening questions:

  • Have you been exposed to a COVID-19 positive case within the previous 14 days?
  • Are you currently experiencing fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher) or a sense of having a fever now or in the last 48 hours?
  • Are you experiencing a new cough, new shortness of breath, new chills, new sore throat, or new muscle aches that cannot be attributed to another health condition?

Anyone experiencing symptoms should not be permitted in the facility.

If Swimmer Becomes Ill

If a swimmer is ill (fails the health screening) or gets ill while at the pool during his/her time slot, every swimmer in that time slot group will be asked to not swim for the next 14 days.

Bins for Lap Pool Member Items

Placed in front of the entrance for each lane is a chair holding a plastic bin (with a top for rain protection when necessary) to hold the lap swimmer’s clothes and personal items. A staff person, while wearing gloves, moves the bin to the other side of the lane while the member is swimming in order to ensure correct exiting of the pool and no downtime. When members are exiting the pool, other members will be lining up at the lane entrance. Bins are sanitized between time slots.

No Lost and Found Available

If a member leaves items at the pool, they will be immediately discarded.  There will be no lost and found available at the pool in order to limit cross-contamination.

Exiting Pool and Facility

Exiting Water

All members must resume wearing a face covering/mask after exiting the pool.

Back Gate

Members must exit via the back gate. Members must leave the pool area immediately wearing their swimsuit and with all equipment at the conclusion of their time slot. Any items left will immediately be discarded (no lost and found available).
