What is the Overlee School of Fish program?

The School of Fish was established in 2013 to provide more individualized instruction and technique development for our emerging swimmers who are 8 and younger. School of Fish swimmers are invited to participate in all Swim Team social events.

What is the age requirement?

School of Fish is open to all swimmers who are age 5 or older and under age 9 as of June 1.

What is the cost for this program?

The cost is $160 per swimmer.

How do I know if my swimmer is ready for this program?

For safety reasons, a School of Fish swimmer must be able to meet the following standards:

  • Successful completion of 25 meters of Freestyle. A dive, jump or start from in the water is acceptable.   Swimmer must maintain a horizontal body position at all times, swim the entire length of the pool without stopping, and may not stand, grab and/or pull on the lane lines.
  • Successful completion of 25 meters of Backstroke. Swimmers must stay on their backs for the entire length of the pool, and must be on their backs when they touch the wall at the finish.  Swimmer must maintain a horizontal body position at all times, swim the entire length of the pool without stopping, and may not stand, grab and/or pull on the lane lines.
  • One minute of treading water. The head must stay above the surface for the entire minute.

Are the School of Fish swimmers members of the Overlee Swim Team? Yes, they can participate in all the picnics, pep rallies, age group activities and end of the season awards celebration. They will get a tee shirt, swim cap and a participatory award at the end of the season. However, these swimmers will have their own competitive meets and will participate in only one Monday night meet with the approval of the coach.

What are the volunteer requirements for the parents? Parents will be required to work 5 hours during the summer for each swimmer registered.
