Many Overlee members desire their children learn to enjoy the water, to learn how to swim or to improve swimming techniques. Many parents enroll in Group Lessons, but many seek more individualized instruction through Private Lessons.
Overlee hires staff who offer Group lessons for Members and Non-members. Per Virginia Law, these Group Lesson Instructors must be at least 15 years of age, certified Lifeguards and pass additional training. See Employment page for hiring info.
Overlee does NOT hire staff for Private Lessons, but as a service to Members, makes available pool space for private lessons and provides a Private Instructors List of those Independent Contractors meeting minimum requirements and available to contract with Members for private lessons.
To be eligible to contract with Overlee members for private lessons, contractors must be:
- at least 15 years of age
- a certified Lifeguard
- perform some Overlee Service (either Team coach, or 20/30/40 Hour Lifeguards, and 10 Hour Guards who teach 4 sessions of Group Lessons)
If you meet the requirements above and wish to teach private lessons:
- send your name, photo, contact info, certifications, and relevant experience to lessons @ overlee.org
- look in breezeway for post on where and when private lessons may be taught
- Private Lessons are for Overlee Members only (ask for member card if unsure)
Teaching Private Lessons at Overlee is a privilege that may be revoked at any time Independent Contractor fails to meet minimum requirements or Overlee rules or policies. Use of the pool is limited for Private Instruction during peak use hours (10-11am and 5-7pm). Private Instructors are responsible for the management, pricing and scheduling of Private Lessons with their clients and any and all taxes, licenses and/or insurance required.
